Hey, so the mushroom here is indeed one of those things that can be used as dyestuff. You have to boil it together with alkaline material like sodium carbonate for example. Some people recommend the use of ammonia as it changes the pigment chemistry, supposedly giving the pigment more blue color. Anyways, once you have boiled the shroom for long enough, you can use it to dye stuff or make lake pigments. The pigment from this mushroom is kinda tricky to deal with as it requires presence of air to fully develop. The colors that you can extract from this mushroom include various greens, blues, cyans and browns. Mature and nearly rotten mushrooms also work best as the dyestuff.
My son uses them. He turns them into pigments for making oil paints and watercolors. He rarely uses them for yarn dyeing. It’s really interesting work. You can check out posts from last year on my other blog: https://annenasia.blogspot.com/2025/10/luonnonvarien-tekoa-osa-3-lake-pigments.html
😳 could you please tell us more ? 😉
