Idänlehtikuoriainen on noin 6-7 mm pitkä, metallinhohtoisen, kupera lehtikuoriainen, jonka tuntosarvet ovat kiinnittyneet lähelle toisiaan. Aikuiset kuoriaiset ja toukat syövät sekä harmaa- että tervalepän lehtiä. Idänlehtikuoriaiset voivat suurin joukoin esiintyessään syödä lepikoita paljaaksi.
