A pity to find it like this. Your guess about the cold sounds likely to me, a snake that crawls up onto the sand along a road at this time of year might just be looking for a bit of warmth. Interesting to see one up close, even a dead one. https://canalsandcitrus.blogspot.com
I think it died from the cold. Usually, people run them over with their cars, but there were no signs here that it had been hit by a vehicle. This snake is a protected species; killing it carries a €70 fine.
Those are really scary! We spend a lot of time out in nature—in forests and thickets. We’ve come across an adder many times and have just barely managed to dodge the snake before it could bite.
What a beautiful snake!
VastaaPoistaThank you very much.
PoistaOh my.
VastaaPoistaYes! It is Finland's only venomous snake.
PoistaIs it getting cold already ??
VastaaPoistaPauvre bête.
It has been cold at night, with freezing temperatures as well.

PoistaI don't like worms at all, but it's sad that it died. Yes, maybe it have been too cold for it.
VastaaPoistaSnakes are frightening, even though this is the only venomous species in Finland.
PoistaPoor thing! It has a beautiful pattern. I didn’t know what an adder looked like.
VastaaPoistaThese same venomous snakes come in brown and also solid black varieties. During the spring and summer, they bite many people and animals in the wild.
PoistaThat pattern of hers is lovely,it's a shame she's dead. The cold must have taken its toll on her.

PoistaI have not even gone ahead and translated. At the first sign of that snake, I have taken off running.
